Wearing Archies Thong
I do not have any problems with my feet or lower limbs, can I still wear Archies Thongs?

Yes! Archies Thongs can be worn by people that do not have any issues with their feet or lower limbs. In fact, while Archies Thongs are the perfect complimentary device to people who wear orthotics, many of the people who wear Archies Thongs do not have foot issues or wear orthotics. It is also important to remember, that the problems relating to the design of typical flat thongs are not just limited to having no support. Other issues such as having loose straps and having no heel elevation are also fundamental design flaws. Archies Thongs are the perfect for people who like having the feeling of increased support or for those that just want a super comfortable thong!

I have plantar fasciitis, will these be good for it?

Archies Thongs will not fix your plantar fasciitis, however, it is likely that they may be a more suitable alternative to wearing typical flat thongs. The orthotic / arch support in Archies Thongs may assist in taking some load off the plantar fascia which may help to provide a more optimal healing environment when compared with flat thongs. Many of the Podiatrist and other Health Professionals that stock Archies Thongs in their practices recommend them to their patients as a complimentary device to their orthotics and other supportive footwear. Rather than walking around on the hard tiles and floor boards, Archies Thongs are great to wear around the house as a slipper to support and take some load off the plantar fascia.

I have some other form of injury, will Archies Thongs help fix it?

Archies Thongs will not “fix” any problem for you. However, if poor biomechanics and foot postural issues are a contributing factor to your injury and you wear typical flat thongs, then it is possible that Archies Thongs may help to improve foot posture and lower limb biomechanics potentially allowing a more optimal healing environment to occur.

I normally wear orthotics, is it still ok that I wear Archies Thongs?

While this cannot be applied to every single person who wears orthotics, the typical answer is ‘yes’, Archies Thongs are fine to be worn by people who wear orthotics.

Many Podiatrists and Health Care Professionals that stock Archies Thongs recommend them as an ‘in and around the house slipper’. Rather than walking around bare feet in and around the house, wearing Archies Thongs when you are not wearing your orthotics allows you to get substantial support through the day whilst giving your feet a much needed break and some fresh air!

I have really flat feet, isn’t it better that I get the high arch support model rather than the standard arch support model?

If you have flat feet, unless you are used to wearing orthotics with a substantial amount of support, then you may find that the high arch model has too much support. In our experience, the standard arch support model is a better option for people with flat feet. The standard arch support model still contains legitimate orthotic support, but it won’t feel as much like there is a ‘lump’ underneath the foot, which is what you would experience if you were to choose the high arch support model.

Is it ok for my children wear Archies Thongs?

Yes of course, Archies Thongs are fine to be worn by children. Unless your child is used to wearing orthotics with a substantial amount of support, then they may find that the high arch model has too much support. Typically speaking, children under the age of 15 years are better suited to our standard arch model. This is because a child’s arch is not yet fully developed and the high support model may feel like there is a ‘lump’ underneath the foot. The standard arch still contains substantial orthotic / arch support and is likely to be a better choice for your child. If you have any further questions or concerns on this matter, then please consult with your local health care professional.

Do you make children’s sizes?

Currently, we do not make children’s sizes. However, it is in the pipeline! At the moment the smallest size that we make in Archies Thongs is a size 5, which is 23cm in length. A foot measurement of anything less than 22cm will be too small to correctly fit Archies Thongs.

I cannot usually wear thongs because the toe pole between my toes irritates me, will Archies Thongs be the same?

Most thong straps are made from hard plastic which commonly causes irritation between the toes. Archies Thongs are a one-piece construction and are made out of a soft foam material. While this cannot be applied to every person, we have certainly found that many people who cannot normally wear thongs due to finding the toe pole (the thing between your toes) irritating, can wear Archies Thongs with no issues because of the soft foam material.

My Archies Thongs squeak when they are wet. Is there anything that I can do about this?

It is true, when Archies Thongs get wet, they can squeak. If the squeaking is bothering you, there is a solution. Stop, dry your thongs and feet with a towel, haha! On a serious note, we do not live in a perfect world and unfortunately when the material found in Archies Thongs gets wet, it can cause squeaking, however the solution provided will fix this for you. There are some instances where sweaty feet can cause the squeaking. If sweaty feet are a common issue for you and it is causing squeaking with your Archies Thongs, then one solution is to get some coarse sandpaper and try to ‘rough’ up the surface. Hopefully this should help.

My Archies Thongs feel a little slippery at first, will this wear off?

When Archies Thongs are brand new they can feel a little slippery at first. Do not worry, this wears off very quickly and after a few wears Archies Thongs develop a nice rubber like texture (even though the thongs do not contain rubber) which has a very comfortable feel under your feet.

Will my feet sweat in Archies Thongs?

To this point in time we have not received any reports of any one sweating in Archies Thongs any more than what they would in a normal thong.

About Archies Thongs
What are Archies Thongs made from?

Archies Thongs are made from a specialised foam material, similar to that of the midsole of most runners. They do not contain rubber or latex.

Will Archies Thongs leave black marks on the floor?

To the best of our knowledge, we have not had any reports of Archies Thongs leaving black marks on floors. However, for the sake of being cautious, if you have a floor surface that you are concerned about marking, then it is advisable not to wear Archies Thongs on this surface.

Where are Archies Thongs made?

Archies Thongs are made in Thailand.

We have an excellent ‘family’ like relationship with our factory speaking with them on a daily basis. Our Archies team visit the factory at least once every two months. The conditions for our workers at the factory are of the highest standard. Workers work 5 days a week from 8:00am to 5:00pm as well as occasional weekends in the busy periods. Workers take all Thai National Holidays as well as their entitled 2 weeks leave per year plus an additional 7 days per year leave with pay. The workers are entitled to 30 days paid sick leave. All workers are paid the national Thai wage rates for such work with some of the more specialised workers being paid higher rates. One of our favourite parts of visiting the factory is seeing the workers faces when we buy them their favourite food… KFC!

How long will Archies Thongs last?

There is no exact answer to this, because the durability of a pair of Archies Thongs depends on many different factors, such as frequency of use, type of use, the surface that they are commonly worn on, product care and so on. We have witnessed people wear the same pair of Archies Thongs for over 5 years.

However, our general advice, is that with proper care, you should get one full summer of excellent use. After the first year the lifespan depends on the factors previously discussed. While we believe that the wear of Archies Thongs is excellent, at the end of the day they still are just thongs (very special thongs though!) and after considerable use they will eventually start to wear down and out. Our warranty covers the thongs for up to three (3) months from receipt of the goods. For more information please see our Returns and Warranty section of this website.

Can Archies Thongs break?

Yes. Despite the fact that we have set out to make Archies Thongs as strong as we possibly can, unfortunately Archies Thongs are not indestructible and it is possible to break them.

To minimise the chances of this happening, when you are not wearing your thongs, avoid leaving them in direct sunlight or high temperatures (e.g uncovered in the back of a car!). Leaving the thongs subject to prolonged sun exposure and high temperatures can cause the material to shrink making the material brittle and increasing the risk of breakage.

We recommend that you reserve the use of Archies Thongs for normal walking only and avoid activities that put undue strain on the thongs, such as running, playing outdoor sports or jumping around at music concerts. It is not advisable to walk down steep hills in wet feet wearing Archies Thongs as this can stretch the strap and increase the risk of breakage of the toe pole.

What do I do if the thongs break?

For full information on what to do in the event of Archies Thongs breaking, please see the Returns and Warranty section of this website.

Product Care Instructions
Why is it important to avoid leaving your Archies Thongs in direct sunlight and high temperatures when you are not wearing them?

When you are not wearing your Archies Thongs, you should avoid leaving them where they will be exposed to high temperatures or direct sunlight. This is the single most important piece of product care information we can give to you! Leaving Archies Thongs uncovered in high temperatures and/or on hot surfaces, such as in a hot car or directly in sunlight may adversely affect the thongs material which can cause them to warp and/or shrink. Second, as with all products, the sun can cause the colour to fade and make the material more brittle.

So if you want to get the best out of your Archies Thongs, when not wearing them, such as when swimming or sunbaking, we recommend to keep them covered with a towel or other clothing item and never leave your Archies Thongs uncovered in a hot car.

What’s the best way to clean my Archies Thongs?

If your Archies Thongs get dirty, they can be very easily cleaned with a green scourer or other scrubbing brush. Warm water is all that is required to do this but of course warm soapy water will do a better job. Simply dry the thongs after giving them a good scrub and they should come up very clean.

IMPORTANT! Some people have some ‘interesting’ ways of cleaning their thongs, such as putting them in a dish washer or washing machine. The high temperature of a dishwasher can cause the thongs to shrink and the straps can get caught in the washing machine causing damage. Washing with a scourer or scrubbing brush is all that is required to clean your Archies Thongs.

Why do you need to be careful when disconnecting your Archies Thongs from the Plastic Attachment Clip?

Your pair of Archies Thongs come attached together by a plastic connector. If you pull the plastic connector to break the plastic apart, this may cause the plastic to cut into the strap. It is important that when you separate your Archies that you either disconnect the plastic attachment or cut it with scissors.

The Fit of Archies Thongs
If I am a new Archies Thongs customer, why is it important to measure my foot length?

Simply put, due to manufacturing variance, not all pairs of Archies Thongs are perfectly the same length and the length can vary from thong to thong, even though they have the same size number on them.

Also, just because you are normally a certain size in your regular thongs or shoes, this does not necessarily mean that you will be the same size in Archies Thongs!

If you are a new Archies Thongs customer, an accurate measurement your foot length is by far the best way to get the correct size.

What’s the benefit of providing Archies Thongs with an accurate measurement of your foot length?

By providing us with an accurate measurement of your foot length, our warehouse team will carefully hand pick a thong which will be custom suited to the length of your foot which will see the orthotic sit in the correct position. When we have an accurate measurement of your foot length, we almost always get the size perfect!

What happens if you do not provide us with a measurement of your foot length? E.g., maybe you cannot do so as the purchase is to be a surprise present for someone.

If you are a new customer, the best process to get perfectly fitted to a pair of Archies Thongs is to always measure your foot length, however, there will of course be times when this is not possible such as when buying a present for someone.

In the event that you cannot provide us with measurements and you only provide us with your size number, then we will simply send you a thong that is a ‘true / correct’ length in that size as per the Archies Thongs Size Conversion Chart. This is accurate as the thongs we send will be exactly as per the Size Chart.

What is the best way to accurately measure your foot length?

  1. Stand on a piece of paper. This is best done on a hard surface such as floor boards or tiles (not carpet).

  2. The very back edge of your heel should be directly in line with the very back edge of the paper. Please be as accurate as possible.

  3. Mark the very back edge of the paper in the middle of the heel.

  4. Mark the very front of the big toe with a pen on the paper.

  5. Measure the distance between the two points in centimetres to the nearest millimetre. The line you end up measuring will be slightly diagonal.

Note: in the circumstances that your 2nd toe is substantially bigger than your big toe, then measure to your second toe. If you have one foot bigger than the other, then measure your biggest foot.

Why is it important to measure my Archies Thongs if I have already purchased a pair of Archies Thongs and I know my size?

Have you ever tried on a dress, a pair of jeans or some shoes that did not fit you, only to have the shop assistant bring out exactly the same size as the one you tried before and have it fit you perfectly? It is the same with Archies Thongs.

Simply put, due to manufacturing variance, not all pairs of Archies Thongs are perfectly the same length and the length can vary from thong to thong, even though they have the same size number written on them. So just relying on the size number of your last pair of thongs is NOT always accurate. For example, the size of a size 7 US Mens should be 25.0cm. However it is not uncommon to get one size 7 which may measure 25.3cm and the next size 7 may measure 24.7cm. While this is only a very small variation from the correct size, this leads to a total of 6mm difference in the size of the two pairs despite them both having size 7 written on them. This can have an effect on getting the best possible fit for you!

When you provide us with an accurate measurement of your old thong, our warehouse will search to find a thong that is exactly the same length as your last pair, giving you the perfect fit each and every time you order online!

So if you are serious about getting the correct size of your Archies Thongs, then please measure!

What happens if you do not provide us with a measurement of your old thongs? (Or maybe you cannot as it is a surprise present for someone).

If you do not provide us with an accurate measurement of your existing Archies Thongs and you only provide us with the size number of your/their last pair, then we will simply send you a thong that is the ‘true / correct’ length in that size as per the Archies Thongs size conversion chart.

However, by not providing us with an accurate measurement of your current Archies Thong length, you risk getting thong that is not the same length as your last thong.

So again, if you are serious about getting your fit correct, where possible, please measure.

I am a new customer, can I just measure the length of another brand of thong that fits me perfectly?

This is certainly not advisable. In the instance that you are a new Archies Thongs customer, the best thing to do is to measure your foot length as per the instructions here.

One exception to this rule is if you can try on a friend’s pair of Archies Thongs and they fit you perfectly, then if you measure the length of their Archies Thongs we can use these measurements to get your fit perfect.

What’s the best way to measure my current Archies Thongs to ensure a perfect fit for my new pair?
  1. Use a ruler to measure on the underside / grip side of the thong, NOT the top of the thong.

  1. Lay the ruler along the length of thong using the marking points provided, ensuring that the ruler is firmly pressed against the thong and the thong is fully stretched out.

  1. Take the measurement from the furthest point of the thong that you can see (this point is on the top of the thong as the underside / grip side is slightly angled in). Please be as accurate as possible and measure to the nearest mm.

If you can get the measurement accurate, then we can send you a thong that is a perfect match to this pair.

Why do you ask about foot width on the ordering page? Do you make thongs of different width?

No, we do not make thongs that are a different width.

While we do not make Archies Thongs that are of a different width, if you can tell us whether or not you have a wide, narrow or average width foot then we can choose a thong with a strap that will be more suited to the shape of your foot and we can also manipulate the strap in our warehouse to better suit your foot shape. If you do not know if you have a wide, narrow or regular width foot, DO NOT STRESS, we will just send you a thong with a strap that is of normal tightness.

When I ordered my Archies Thongs online I said that I had a wide foot, but the thongs I received seem to be quite narrow?

We do not make thongs that are of a different width and Archies Thongs are a reasonably narrow fitting thong. The reason that we ask for a description of your foot width is so that our warehouse can manipulate the thong strap to better suit the shape of your foot giving you a more customised fit, however this has nothing to do with us providing thongs that are of varying widths.

I’m not sure if I have a wide, narrow or average width foot. Do I need to measure the width of my foot?

No, please do not send us a measurement of your foot width as this will NOT help us. Simply selecting one of the options on the ordering page of a wide, narrow or regular foot width description is sufficient.

Most people who have a wide or narrow foot typically know that they have this foot type. If you do not know which type of foot width you have it is likely that you have a regular width foot. This not a big decision so do not stress about it.

If you do not know if you have a wide, regular or narrow foot, simply select regular width or unsure on the ordering page and we will send you a thong that is of normal strap tightness.

Why is it important to have a tighter strap?

Archies Thongs have been designed with a tighter strap than normal thongs. This is because in thongs with a loose strap, the toes claw down in an attempt to keep the thongs on the feet. Normally when you walk your toes are supposed to point / bend upwards. When the toes point / bend upwards, this activates the arch of the foot which helps provide protection and support to the vital structures of the feet. When the toes claw down such as when trying to keep the thongs on the feet, the arch does not activate correctly which means that you do not get the protective support from the arch of the foot. This can leave the foot tired and achy, vulnerable to stress and potential injury. The tighter strap found in Archies Thongs may help to reduce toe clawing which may enable you to walk more naturally.

Ok, so I now know it’s important to have a tight strap but my strap still feels a bit too tight, will it stretch?

It is important to know that if the strap feels a little too tight at first, do not worry, the strap is very elastic, within a few days of wear, the strap will gradually stretch and mould to the shape of your feet. However, if the strap continues to feel too tight it is easy to stretch the strap and the toe pole to decrease tightness.

How do I stretch the strap?

Before stretching the strap, always inspect on the underside of the strap for a joining line. of the strap for a joining line. Occasionally, a joining line will be present and is indicated by a faint line through the underside of the strap. While the strap is very strong, if you stretch the strap directly on a joining line, it can break, so never stretch the strap directly on a joining line! See the below photo of a joining line:

Weldline

To stretch the strap, simply hold the strap between your fingers and in small little increments stretch each section of the strap where it feels too tight. You can do the same for the toe pole if this feels too tight. Continue to do this, trying the thong on and off, stretching the strap and toe pole until it has reached your desired level of tightness. It is important to note, that while the straps are very elastic, once stretched, the strap will not return to its original tightness, so please be careful not to overdo the stretching.

My strap was tighter before and now it has stretched, will it go back to being tight again?

Unfortunately, over time, the strap will eventually stretch and loose some of its original tightness the same way clothing will stretch over time if you wear it a lot. The strap stretching over time is inevitable and is not a reason for product return. As previously stated, whilst the straps are very elastic, once stretched, the strap will not return to its original tightness.

The Level of Arch Support
How do I know if my last pair of thongs was a high arch or a standard arch model?

At present, not all of our thongs are marked as standard arch or high arch, however we are in the process of doing this.

In the meantime, if you have purchased a thong and it is not marked as either high arch or standard arch then it is very easy to tell by looking at the size system on the bottom of the thongs because they both follow a different system. We are also in the process of converting the size systems of the standard arch so that it is the same as the high arch system, however this will not be finished for some time.

Please see the below High Arch Size Chart and the Standard Arch Size Chart:

Which level of support are my current flip flops / thongs?

Which one is better, the high arch or the standard arch?

One arch profile is not necessarily better than the other. Both arch profiles have substantial orthotic / arch support and a similar amount of support to that found in off the shelf orthotics. It’s just that the high arch support model has increased support in comparison to the standard arch support mode and one arch profile may be more suited to your foot type, personal preference and what you are used to. E.g, If you are used to wearing orthotics or other support footwear.

So, how do I know which model is the right one for me?

This is very easy and is not a big decision!

If you are used to wearing orthotics or other supportive shoes and sandals, then it is likely that you will prefer the feel of our of high arch support model.

If you are not used to wearing orthotics or supportive footwear, then our standard arch model will likely be a better choice for you.

If you have low arches / flat feet, then you will likely prefer our standard arch model, as the high arch support will likely feel that it has too much support (unless of course you are used to wearing orthotics with a lot of support).

If you have high or normal type arches, then you will be fine in either our high arch support model or our standard arch support model, it would just come down to personal preference of what you are used to and your support needs.

Not sure which one to go with?

If unsure of which one to go with then definitely go with the standard arch support model. The standard arch support model contains legitimate orthotic / arch support, is super comfortable and almost every person absolutely loves and raves about this thong! You can then consider going for the high support model at another stage once your feet are used to having the support.

Regardless of which model you choose, do not stress, it’s not a big decision! Both models have substantial orthotic / arch support and it is highly likely you will be happy with whatever you choose! In the unlikely event that you choose a model and are not 100% satisfied, simply post the thongs back to us in new / unworn condition and we will happily send you a replacement pair in the other model free of charge. To prevent misuse of this offer, return postage of the original pair is at the expense of the customer, but we will happily pay for the postage on the replacement pair.

My Archies Thongs feel a bit ‘funny’ at first, will I get used to the feeling of the arch support?

Most people put on Archies Thongs and they find them to be instantly and unbelievably comfortable! However, for some people, getting used to the support can take some time and in some occasions you may even experience some soreness. So in the unlikely event your Archies Thongs are not instantly comfortable, do not worry, after several days of wear, the thongs will gradually mould to the shape of your foot and will become much more comfortable.

If you feel you have given the thongs a good try and they are not starting to get much more comfortable (they should be very comfortable!), then it is likely that the arch profile that you have chosen is not the right one for your foot. In this case the best thing would be to try the other arch profile and in most cases the result is an immediate improvement in comfort level! However, if any soreness or pain continues to persist, then please contact your health care professional.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the fit and feel or other, please feel free to contact our customer service team at customerservice@archiesfootwear.com.au

Size Conversion Chart

Archies Arch Support Thongs are a unisex thong, however the sizing of Archies Footwear follows US Men's sizing.

For women, your Archies Thong size will always be one size less than your normal ladies size. For example, if you are normally a size 8 US Womens, then the corresponding size in Archies Thongs would be a size 7 US.

The table below is only a size guide and if you are a NEW CUSTOMER, we strongly recommend that you provide us with a measurement of your foot length as this is the most accurate way to get your size correct. Why is it important to measure my foot length if I am new customer?  What is the best way to measure my foot length?

Even if you are an EXISTING CUSTOMER and you already know your Archies Thong size, we still strongly recommend that you measure the length of your current pair of thongs and provide this with your order. Why do I need to measure my thong if I have already know my Archies Thongs size?  What is the best way to measure my current thong length?

Already have a pair of Archies thongs?  Click here to see what Arch type you have.

Providing us with an accurate measurement of your foot length or the length of your existing thong with your order is an extremely accurate way to get you the perfect size pair of thongs and is far more accurate than just going off your normal shoe size as we can custom fit the thong to the length of your foot. As such, when we have your foot / existing thong measurements, we more or less disregard the size number you select e.g Size 8 and instead we use the measurements you provide to us to find you the perfect fitting thong e.g 26.3 cm.

The size number is more there to help provide us with additional information, keep control of our inventory and for those who are too busy (or lazy, haha) to measure. However, where both measurements and normal size are provided, the measurements will always take precedence over the Archies Size number when it comes to selecting your thong. So please take the time to measure accurately exactly as per our measuring instructions, as it will help us to get the best fitting thong possible for your foot.

It is important to understand that peoples feet do not fit perfectly to a size chart, therefore, using your foot / existing thong measurements is simply a much more precise way to get a fit that is specifically suited to your foot, rather than just using a size chart that does not account for quarter and half sizes etc.
